Der letzte Kontinent – Afrika ruft!

Endlich war es so weit: Das Kapitel *Afrika* begann – der letzte Kontinent, den weder mein Vater noch ich je betreten hatten. Die Vorbereitungen waren abgeschlossen, die Rucksaecke gepackt, die Kameras griffbereit. Unser Abenteuer konnte starten!

In Genf stiegen wir in den Flieger der Ethiopian Airlines, der uns via Addis Abeba nach Uganda bringen sollte. Der Flug hatte zwar etwas Verspaetung, doch wir waren entspannt – schliesslich hatten wir Zeit. In Addis Abeba verbrachten wir vier Stunden am Flughafen, ehe es weiterging nach Entebbe, Uganda.

Dort angekommen, verlief die Einreise dank e-Visa voellig problemlos. Am Ausgang wartete schon Brian auf uns – unser Guide fuer die kommenden 13 Tage. Ein sympathischer 33-Jaehriger mit einer grossen Leidenschaft fuer Fotografie. Er wusste genau, wo die besten Fotospots zu finden waren – perfekt fuer uns!

Nach einer kurzen Fahrt erreichten wir unser erstes Hotel. Das Personal war herzlich, das Essen koestlich, doch lange blieben wir nicht wach – der Flug hatte uns muede gemacht, und wir waren gute fuenf Stunden spaeter angekommen als geplant.

Am naechsten Morgen starteten wir frueh in Richtung **Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary** – unser erstes Ziel: Nashoerner! Eines der fuenf Tiere auf unserer persoenlichen „Big 5“-Liste. Gegen Mittag trafen wir dort ein und machten uns direkt auf den Weg. Wir hatten Glueck: Einige Nashoerner zeigten sich sogar in Bewegung! Doch bei der Hitze verzogen sich die Tiere bald in den Schatten – und wir folgten ihrem Beispiel.

Nach einem leckeren Mittagessen im Park machten wir uns auf die lange Fahrt zum **Murchison Falls Nationalpark** – etwa sechs Stunden durch das laendliche Uganda. Wir passierten kleine Doerfer, hielten immer wieder an, um Fotos zu machen, und genossen jede Sekunde.

Da wir frueher als geplant ankamen, nutzten wir die Gelegenheit fuer einen ersten Besuch bei den beruehmten **Murchison Falls**. Gewaltige Wassermassen stuerzen hier mit unglaublicher Kraft in die Tiefe – die kraeftigsten Wasserfaelle der Welt, sagt man. Eine einstuendige Tour brachte uns naeher an die Geschichte und Magie dieses Ortes.

Am Abend erreichten wir unsere Lodge, genossen ein herrliches Abendessen mit Brian und beendeten den Tag mit einem Sprung in den Pool – eine willkommene Abkuehlung. Bald darauf fielen wir erschoepft, aber gluecklich ins Bett.

Denn am naechsten Tag wartete schon das naechste Highlight: zwei **Game Drives** – Safari pur! Mit etwas Glueck wuerden wir die restlichen Tiere der Big Five entdecken… und vielleicht sogar Giraffen.

**The Last Continent – Africa Is Calling**

At last, the moment had come: the Africa chapter was about to begin – the final continent neither my father nor I had ever set foot on. Preparations were complete, backpacks packed, cameras ready. Our adventure was finally underway!

From Geneva, we boarded an Ethiopian Airlines flight that would take us via Addis Ababa to Uganda. The flight was slightly delayed, but we weren’t stressed – after all, we had time. We spent four hours at the airport in Addis Ababa before catching our connecting flight to Entebbe.

Upon arrival, immigration was smooth thanks to the e-visa system. Outside the airport, we were greeted by Brian – our guide for the next 13 days. A super friendly 33-year-old with a passion for photography, just like us. He knew exactly where to find the best photo spots – perfect!

After a short drive, we reached our first hotel. The staff was lovely, the food delicious, but we didn’t stay up long – the journey had tired us out, especially since we arrived nearly five hours later than planned.

The next morning, we set off early for **Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary** – our first mission: spotting rhinos! One of the Big Five on our personal checklist. We arrived around noon and immediately joined a guided tour. We were lucky – a few rhinos were even on the move! But with the rising heat, they soon disappeared into the shade... and so did we.

After a tasty lunch in the park, we continued our journey to **Murchison Falls National Park**, about a six-hour drive away. Along the way, we passed countless small villages, stopped often for photos, and soaked in every moment of this new world.

We arrived earlier than expected, which gave us the chance to visit the famous **Murchison Falls**. These falls are said to be the most powerful in the world – and they truly were a sight to behold. A one-hour tour gave us a deeper insight into the park’s history and the sheer force of nature.

That evening, we reached our lodge, enjoyed a great dinner with Brian, and ended the day with a refreshing dip in the pool. Soon after, we collapsed into bed, exhausted but happy.

The next day would bring another major highlight: two **game drives** – real safari action! With a bit of luck, we might spot the remaining animals on our Big Five list… and maybe even some giraffes.

**El último continente – ¡África nos llama!**

Por fin llegó el momento: comenzaba el capítulo *África*, el último continente que ni mi padre ni yo habíamos pisado jamás. Los preparativos estaban completos, las mochilas listas, las cámaras cargadas. ¡La aventura podía comenzar!

Desde Ginebra volamos con Ethiopian Airlines, con escala en Adís Abeba antes de llegar a Uganda. Aunque el vuelo tuvo un pequeño retraso, lo tomamos con calma – teníamos tiempo. Pasamos cuatro horas en el aeropuerto de Adís Abeba antes de tomar el siguiente vuelo hacia Entebbe.

Al llegar, el trámite de entrada fue muy sencillo gracias al visado electrónico. En la salida del aeropuerto nos esperaba Brian, nuestro guía para los próximos 13 días. Un joven de 33 años, muy simpático y apasionado por la fotografía, igual que nosotros. ¡Sabía exactamente dónde estaban los mejores lugares para tomar fotos!

Después de un breve trayecto, llegamos a nuestro primer hotel. El personal fue muy amable, la comida excelente, pero no nos quedamos despiertos mucho tiempo – el viaje nos había dejado agotados, especialmente porque llegamos con casi cinco horas de retraso.

A la mañana siguiente partimos temprano hacia el **Santuario de Rinocerontes de Ziwa**, nuestra primera misión: ¡ver rinocerontes! Uno de los cinco animales de nuestra lista de los “Big Five”. Llegamos alrededor del mediodía y salimos directamente a hacer el recorrido. Tuvimos suerte: ¡vimos varios rinocerontes moviéndose! Pero con el calor, pronto se refugiaron a la sombra… y nosotros también.

Después de un delicioso almuerzo en el parque, continuamos el viaje hacia el **Parque Nacional Murchison Falls**, a unas seis horas en coche. Atravesamos pueblos pequeños, nos detuvimos varias veces para tomar fotos y disfrutamos cada momento de este nuevo mundo.

Como llegamos antes de lo previsto, aprovechamos para visitar las impresionantes **Cataratas Murchison**. Dicen que son las más potentes del mundo – y al verlas de cerca, no lo dudamos. Hicimos una visita guiada de una hora y aprendimos más sobre la historia del parque y la fuerza increíble del agua.

Al final del día llegamos a nuestro lodge, cenamos delicioso con Brian y cerramos la jornada con un baño refrescante en la piscina. Poco después, caímos rendidos en la cama, agotados pero felices.

Al día siguiente nos esperaba otro gran momento: ¡dos **safaris** – o “game drives”! Con un poco de suerte, podríamos ver el resto de los Big Five… y tal vez incluso algunas jirafas.
