Into the Deep: Our Final Days in Antarctica 3/3 🇩🇪🇪🇸🇺🇸

In the final days of our Antarctic expedition, we pushed even deeper into this remote and untouched wilderness. We were incredibly fortunate to experience countless breathtaking landings and unforgettable Zodiac cruises. One particular moment stands out above all the rest.

After a landing, we set off again in our Zodiacs, heading toward a known whale hotspot. We waited quietly, surrounded by nothing but ice and silence, hoping for a glimpse of these giants of the ocean. And then it happened. Out of nowhere, whales surfaced right beside our Zodiac. They rose gracefully, showed their powerful flukes, and disappeared back into the depths. It was a moment filled with awe – raw, wild, and impossible to forget.

As if that wasn’t enough, we were soon surrounded by a large group of Gentoo penguins. They playfully swam around us, completely at ease in their icy home. I had the chance to capture some underwater footage – something truly special for me. Watching the penguins underwater was mesmerizing. Their movements were incredibly elegant, almost like they were flying through the ocean. It was a perspective I will never forget.

Later, we arrived at one of the most iconic places in Antarctica: Paradise Bay. There, we enjoyed both a landing and another Zodiac cruise. While the landing itself was already stunning, the real highlight was something unexpected – our sister ship was there as well. For a brief moment, both ships lay side by side in this surreal landscape. Seeing them together in such a remote place made the experience even more special.

During another Zodiac cruise, we encountered a leopard seal. But this time, it wasn’t hunting. Instead, it was calmly resting, almost posing in the golden light of the setting sun. We spent around 30 minutes observing it from a respectful distance. The atmosphere was peaceful, almost surreal – one of those rare moments where time seems to slow down.

Finally, our last day had arrived. We visited Deception Island before beginning our journey back to Ushuaia. With its dramatic volcanic landscape and unique atmosphere, it was the perfect place to end this incredible adventure.

These final days in Antarctica were nothing short of extraordinary – a collection of moments that felt almost unreal. Whales, penguins, leopard seals, and landscapes beyond imagination. Every encounter was unique, every second unforgettable. It’s hard to fully capture these experiences in words, but they will stay with me forever.

--- An den letzten Tagen unserer Antarktisreise drangen wir noch tiefer in diese faszinierende, unberührte Welt vor. Wir hatten das Glück, zahlreiche atemberaubende Landgänge und aufregende Zodiak-Ausfahrten zu erleben. Besonders eine dieser Fahrten bleibt mir unvergesslich: Nach einem Landgang stiegen wir wieder in unsere Zodiaks und fuhren zu einem bekannten Walspot. Geduldig warteten wir darauf, dass sich die majestätischen Tiere zeigten. Und dann geschah es – die Wale tauchten direkt neben unserem Boot auf, präsentierten ihre prächtigen Flossen und tauchten wieder ab. Ein Moment voller Ehrfurcht und Staunen, den ich so schnell nicht vergessen werde.

Kaum hatten wir uns von den Walen erholt, überraschte uns eine große Gruppe Gentoo-Pinguine, die neugierig um unser Boot schwamm. Ich nutzte die Gelegenheit für einige Unterwasseraufnahmen – ein absolut einzigartiges Erlebnis für mich. Unter Wasser wirkten die Pinguine unglaublich elegant, ihre Bewegungen fließend und fast tänzerisch, ein Anblick, der mich vollkommen in seinen Bann zog.

Später fuhren wir zu einem der bekanntesten Orte der Antarktis: Paradise Bay. Hier erwarteten uns sowohl ein Landgang als auch eine Zodiak-Tour. Das Landen war bereits spektakulär, doch das Highlight des Tages war ein ganz besonderes Zusammentreffen: Unser Partnerboot, das Zwillingsschiff unserer Gruppe, lag ebenfalls in der Bucht. Für kurze Zeit konnten wir beide Schiffe nebeneinander sehen – ein ungewöhnlicher und beeindruckender Anblick, der die Szenerie noch magischer machte.

Bei einer weiteren Zodiak-Ausfahrt entdeckten wir dann noch einen Leopardenrobbenbullen. Anders als bei der Jagd, die wir zuvor beobachtet hatten, lag dieser entspannt in der Sonne und schien die Nähe zu unserem Boot zu genießen. Wir verbrachten volle 30 Minuten in seiner Nähe, während die Sonne langsam unterging – ein friedlicher, fast surrealer Moment, den ich nie vergessen werde.

Am letzten Tag unserer Expedition stand Deception Island auf dem Programm, bevor wir uns auf den Rückweg nach Ushuaia machten. Die Insel mit ihren dramatischen Landschaften und geothermischen Aktivitäten bildete einen würdigen Abschluss unserer unglaublichen Reise.

Diese letzten Tage in der Antarktis waren ein wahres Feuerwerk der Naturwunder: Wale, Pinguine, Leopardenrobben und atemberaubende Landschaften – jede Begegnung einzigartig, jedes Erlebnis unvergesslich. Es ist schwer, diese Momente in Worte zu fassen, doch sie haben sich tief in mein Herz eingebrannt. --- En los últimos días de nuestra expedición por la Antártida, nos adentramos aún más en este mundo remoto e intacto. Tuvimos la increíble suerte de vivir numerosos desembarcos impresionantes y emocionantes salidas en Zodiac. Pero hay un momento que destaca por encima de todos.

Después de uno de los desembarcos, volvimos a subir a nuestras Zodiacs y navegamos hacia una zona conocida por la presencia de ballenas. Esperamos en silencio, rodeados únicamente por el hielo y la inmensidad del paisaje, con la esperanza de ver a estos gigantes del océano. Y entonces sucedió. De repente, varias ballenas emergieron justo al lado de nuestra embarcación. Se elevaron con elegancia, mostraron sus poderosas colas y volvieron a sumergirse en las profundidades. Fue un momento lleno de asombro, puro y salvaje, imposible de olvidar.

Como si eso no fuera suficiente, poco después nos encontramos rodeados por un gran grupo de pingüinos papúa. Nadaban a nuestro alrededor con total tranquilidad, como si jugasen en su entorno natural. Tuve la oportunidad de hacer algunas tomas submarinas, algo realmente único para mí. Ver a los pingüinos bajo el agua fue simplemente fascinante: sus movimientos eran increíblemente elegantes, casi como si volaran a través del océano. Una experiencia que se quedará conmigo para siempre.

Más tarde llegamos a uno de los lugares más icónicos de la Antártida: Paradise Bay. Allí realizamos tanto un desembarco como otra salida en Zodiac. El lugar ya era espectacular por sí solo, pero el verdadero punto culminante fue algo inesperado: nuestro barco gemelo también se encontraba allí. Por un momento, ambos barcos estaban uno al lado del otro en medio de este paisaje surrealista. Verlos juntos en un lugar tan remoto hizo que la experiencia fuera aún más especial.

Durante otra salida en Zodiac, nos encontramos con una foca leopardo. Pero esta vez no estaba cazando, sino descansando tranquilamente, casi como posando bajo la luz dorada del atardecer. Pasamos unos 30 minutos observándola desde una distancia respetuosa. El ambiente era mágico, casi irreal, uno de esos momentos en los que el tiempo parece detenerse.

Finalmente llegó nuestro último día. Visitamos Deception Island antes de emprender el regreso hacia Ushuaia. Con su paisaje volcánico dramático y su atmósfera única, fue el lugar perfecto para cerrar esta increíble aventura.

Estos últimos días en la Antártida fueron simplemente extraordinarios: un conjunto de momentos que parecen irreales. Ballenas, pingüinos, focas leopardo y paisajes inimaginables. Cada encuentro fue único, cada instante inolvidable. Es difícil expresar con palabras todo lo vivido, pero son recuerdos que llevaré conmigo para siempre.
