Peninsula Valdez, Orcas

Nach Buenos Aires ging es weiter nach Puerto Madryn, eine kleine Stadt in der Region Chubut, Patagonien. Die Stadt ist bekannt für Waltouren und die Möglichkeit, Orcas zu sehen. Dies war auch der Grund, weshalb ich nach Puerto Madryn gegangen bin. Im März bis Mitte Mai ist Orcasaison, den die Robbenkinder gehen das erste Mal ins Meer schwimmen und die Orca nützen dabei ihre Chance einfach an essen zu kommen, der Vorgang ist einzigartig und es gibt super Videos, welche die Jagt der Orcas auf der Insel Peninsula Valdez gut zeigen.(Youtube)

Man weiss aber nie genau, wann und wo die Orcas zuschlagen, deshalb ist die Chance sehr klein, dass man zur richtigen Zeit am richtigen Ort ist. Ich hatte aber Glück extrem Glück und sah sogar beim ersten Versuch gerade sieben Orcas. Es war ein Lebenstraum, der für mich in diesem Moment in Erfüllung gegangen ist. Auch die Region Puerto Madryn ist wunderschön. Es gibt viele Robben, Strausse, Lamas und Pinguine in der Region um Puerto Madryn. Es war sicherlich eine Reise wert. Ich werde im September nochmals zurückkehren, um die Wale zu sehen.

Jetzt geht es weiter in Richtung Bariloche und danach südlicher nach Patagonien nach Ushuaia.

Después de Buenos Aires, seguimos hasta Puerto Madryn, una pequeña ciudad de la región de Chubut, en la Patagonia. La ciudad es conocida por las excursiones para ver ballenas y la posibilidad de ver orcas. Ésta fue también la razón por la que fui a Puerto Madryn. De marzo a mediados de mayo es la temporada de las orcas, cuando las crías de foca nadan en el mar por primera vez y las orcas aprovechan para conseguir comida fácilmente, el proceso es único y hay grandes vídeos que muestran la caza de las orcas en la isla Península de Valdez (Youtube).

Sin embargo, nunca se sabe exactamente cuándo y dónde atacarán las orcas, por lo que la posibilidad de estar en el lugar adecuado en el momento adecuado es muy pequeña. Pero yo tuve mucha suerte y llegué a ver sólo siete orcas en mi primer intento. Fue el sueño de mi vida hecho realidad en ese momento. La región de Puerto Madryn también es preciosa. Hay muchas focas, avestruces, llamas y pingüinos en la región que rodea Puerto Madryn. Sin duda, el viaje mereció la pena. Volveré en septiembre para ver las ballenas.

Ahora me dirijo a Bariloche y luego al sur de la Patagonia, a Ushuaia.

After Buenos Aires, we continued to Puerto Madryn, a small town in the Chubut region of Patagonia. The city is known for whale tours and the possibility to see orcas. This was also the reason why I went to Puerto Madryn. In March to mid-May is orca season, the seal pups go swimming for the first time in the sea and the orca take their chance just to get food, the process is unique and there are great videos that show the hunt of the orcas on the island Peninsula Valdez well (Youtube).

But you never know exactly when and where the orcas will strike, so the chance is very small that you are at the right place at the right time. I was extremely lucky though and even saw just seven orcas on my first try. It was a lifetime dream come true for me at that moment. The Puerto Madryn region is also beautiful. There are many seals, ostriches, llamas and penguins in the region around Puerto Madryn. It was certainly worth the trip. I will return again in September to see the whales.

Now it's on to Bariloche and then south to Patagonia to Ushuaia.
